Gut & Mood Combo Test
Gut & Mood Combo Test
Support your mental wellbeing from the inside out with the Gut & Mood Combo Test—designed to explore the powerful connection between digestive health and emotional balance. Emerging research shows that the gut microbiome plays a pivotal role in mental health, influencing mood, stress response, and even symptoms of anxiety and depression. This home blood and stool test gives you clinically relevant insights into how your gut health could be affecting your mind and body.
Studies from King’s College London, University of Oxford, and Harvard Medical School confirm the existence of the gut-brain axis—a complex communication system between your digestive system and central nervous system. Imbalances in gut bacteria have been linked to mood disorders, fatigue, and inflammation (Cryan et al., 2019; Mayer et al., 2020).
Whether you're dealing with bloating, low mood, brain fog or digestive discomfort, this test can help you identify potential underlying causes and take meaningful steps towards better gut and mental health.
What Does It Test For?
This combo test examines key biomarkers that influence both gut health and mental wellbeing:
1. Gut Microbiome Diversity & Imbalance (Stool Test)
Analyses the composition and balance of your intestinal microbiota. This includes: Beneficial vs. harmful bacteria levels, Markers of dysbiosis (microbial imbalance), and short-chain fatty acid production, which affects inflammation and neurotransmitter synthesis
According to King’s College London, reduced microbial diversity is associated with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), depression, and anxiety. Studies have also shown that certain strains of bacteria produce neurotransmitters like serotonin, GABA, and dopamine, directly influencing mood (Foster et al., 2016).
2. Intestinal Inflammation (Calprotectin)
Measures calprotectin, a protein released during inflammation in the gut lining. Elevated levels may indicate conditions such as: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Gastrointestinal infections, and Chronic low-grade gut inflammation, which may affect mood and cognition.
As per the NHS and NICE guidelines, calprotectin is a valuable non-invasive biomarker for assessing inflammatory activity in the gut.
3. Vitamin B12 & Folate (Blood Test)
These essential B vitamins play a crucial role in energy metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis. Deficiencies are linked to: Low mood and depression, fatigue, and poor concentration.
According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, low levels of B12 and folate are common in those experiencing mental health symptoms, and addressing deficiencies can have a significant impact on mood and cognition.
